Our personal path to creating the China European Family Oasis can now be followed on social media: we have installed our own Fediserver.

This post is slightly more technical than usual. We want to make it easier for people to follow our biggest adventure. To achieve this, all our posts can now also be followed on Mastodon, or on any other Fediverse instance (server).

Mastodon is a social media platform and it is part of the global Fediserve system. Fediverse make use of an open protocol called ActivityPub. ActivityPub is set up so that you can follow your friends even when they are on another platform. At this moment, when you are on Facebook, or you are on Weibo, to follow you, I also need to have an account on Facebook or Weibo.

With Fediverse, that is no longer necessary. Your friends can be on another platform, but you do not have to make an account there to follow them.

The number of platforms that support the Fediverse is rapidly growing. There is PeerTube for videos, Pixelfed for pictures and Mastodon is the largest open equivalent of Twitter.
